چکیده

Flow in fractured porous media occurs the earth’s subsurface, biological tissues, and man-made materials. Fractures have a dominating influence on flow processes, last decade has seen an extensive development of models numerical methods that explicitly account for their presence. To support these developments, four benchmark cases single-phase three-dimensional are presented. The specifically designed to test methods’ capabilities handling various complexities common geometrical structures fracture networks. Based open call participation, results obtained with 17 were collected. This paper presents underlying mathematical model, overview features participating methods, performance solving cases.

Benchmarks for single-phase flow in fractured porous media

This paper presents several test cases intended to be benchmarks for numerical schemes for single-phase fluid flow in fractured porous media. A number of solution strategies are compared, including a vertex and a cell-centered finite volume method, a non-conforming embedded discrete fracture model, a primal and a dual extended finite element formulation, and a mortar discrete fracture model. Th...

An Eulerian-Lagrangian Solution Technique for Single-Phase Compositional Flow in Three-Dimensional Porous Media

We develop an Eulerian-Lagrangian iterative solution technique for accurate and efficient numerical simulation of single-phase compositional flow through three-dimensional compressible porous media in the presence of multiple injection and production wells. In the numerical simulator, an Eulerian-Lagrangian method is used to solve the convectiondiffusion transport equations and a mixed finite e...

Analysis of a Multiple-porosity Model for Single-phase Flow through Naturally Fractured Porous Media

A model for single-phase flow in porous media that are hierarchically fissured in regular patterns was derived by a recursive asymptotic expansion technique in [16] and part of [24]. This work rigorously justifies that model. Through recursive homogenization, we extend the doubleporosity model in [5], which has one fracture system and a matrix (rock) block system, to a triple-porosity model tha...

Three-dimensional analysis of variably-saturated flow and solute transport in discretely-fractured porous media

A discrete fracture, saturated-unsaturated numerical model is developed where the porous matrix is represented in three dimensions and fractures are represented by two-dimensional planes. This allows a fully three-dimensional description of the fracture network connectivity. Solute advection and diffusion in the porous matrix are also directly accounted for. The variably-saturated flow equation...

Simulation of Coupled Single-phase Flow and Geomechanics in Fractured Porous Media

Accurate predictions of the complex interactions between fluid-flow and mechanical deformation in fractured geologic formations is of interest in a wide range of reservoir engineering applications including subsurface CO2 sequestration, heavy-oil recovery, and wellbore stability. In this report, we describe a fully implicit method for coupled geomechanics and fluid flow in naturally fractured p...
